Flipping Over and Out

Reece has figured out how to flip over from his back to his stomach. Almost every time I lay him on his play mat he flips over onto his tummy.... sometimes immediately, other times after a few minutes. The only problem is that he seems to have forgotten how to flip back. He had figured out how to flip over from his stomach to his back a couple of months ago but now he can't seem to do it anymore.

First Solids

A few days ago we decided to give the boys Rice Cereal to see what would happen. Here are some of the pictures...lol!!

Matthew all excited to try solids!!

"Uhm... what is this??"

A messy but happy eater!

Reece's first taste of solids

"Yummy!!"

He even cleans up after himself!!

Since then Reece has really been enjoying his 1 tablespoon of Rice Cereal at lunch time. You can barely give it to him fast enough. I'm thinking of increasing him to 2 meals a day.

Matthew on the other hand has not gotten used to the consitency or eating with a spoon. He has also been sick with a stuffed up nose and cough for the past few days so he hasn't been eating much in general.

Four Months Old (corrected)

Today the doctor from Women's College follow up clinic came to check on the boys to see how they are developing. She said that boths boys look great and are meeting their milestones. Here is the list they are supposed to be able to do by 4 months.
  • Turn head side to side to follow a toy.
  • Glance from one object to another.
  • Turn head toward a source of sound.
  • Make sounds when looking at toys or people.
  • Brighten to sound, especially people's voices.
  • Respond to you by making sounds and moving arms and legs.
  • Laugh and smile at you.
  • Finish each feeding within 45 minutes.
  • Lift head and support self on forearms.
  • Bring both hands to chest and keep head midline when lying on back.
  • Hold head steady when supported in a sitting position.
  • Reach for an object when supported in a sitting position.
  • Hold an object briefly when placed in hand.

Both boys did very well during the doctor's evaluation. Some things she mentioned was that Reece has 'low tone' in his midsection but it should improve soon and his bobble head when sitting will go away. Reece has a preference for his right side so we have to actively stimulate him to look and go to the left.

As for Matthew, she said that she can see that he is more of a people person and would rather play with people than with toys. We also have to stop letting him stand and not put him in the jolly jumper or exerciser anymore. She said the standing reflex needs to go away so that he can reach his next milestones of sitting on his own and eventually crawlling.

Finally, the doctor also recommended that we start feeding the boys solids. She said that it could take some time to get them to understand that it is food and meant to be swallowed and that if we just stick to the grains for now then there shouldn't be any issues with allergies.

Overall she was very happy with their progress and her recommendation was MORE TUMMY TIME!!

Playdates

The boys got to meet a new friend today. A coworker and friend of mine, Alyssa, brought her son Noah who was born on January 1st, 2010. Although the boys mostly slept this time I imagine they will be great friends as they get older.

A few days ago Charlotte came over and she rolled herself pratically on top of Reece. Thankfully Matthew was sleeping as I imagine he would have been quite upset seeing his girlfriend flirting with his brother. LOL!!

First Cold :(

Well the inevitable has happened... the boys have their first colds. Matthew's is presenting as brochialitis and needs to use a nebulizer. Reece's is presenting as an ear infection for which he has been subscribed an antibiotic. As far as colds go this is fairly mild and Reece and Matthew have been so good. They have not been eating as much but are getting lots of rest.

On a positive note, the boys got wieghed at their doctor's appointment today and they are both over 14 pounds. Reece is now 6.56kg (14lbs 7oz) and Matthew has actually surpassed his brother and is now 6.62kg (14lbs 9oz). They will be seeing the doctor again next week for their 6 month shots and will be measured and reweighed so we'll see who is bigger!!

Swimming!!

The boys had their very first swimming lesson today and they did GREAT!! Both boys seemed to really enjoy the water! We took a few pictures with a diposable waterproof camera so it will take some time to get the pictures developed, scanned and uploaded.

March

March has been a busy and fun filled month. We had several visitors and playdates throughout the month. The boys got their first portraits done at Sears portrait studio (pictures to follow once I get them and scan them). They also got their passport photos and applications done.

Grand-dad and Mimi (Dug's dad and step mom) came in from Kelowna for a week and had a fabulous visit with the boys. We even mananged to all go to the cottage for a few days which was so much fun.

We also were so excited to meet the boys little cousin Ari when Uncle Eric and Melanie (Audrey's younger brother and sister in law) came in for a visit from Pheonix.

Cute Pictures

I have so many pictures of the boys and rarely have time to share them so I'm going to try and upload a few random cute photos. We are hoping to get the boys to a photo studio soon to get some professional photos taken, and maybe even a family photo.

From Nonna

When we first got pregnant with Cole and Breanna, Dug's mom (Nonna) was so excited and couldn't wait to spoil her grandkids. She sent us these adorable yellow cozy sleepers. Yesterday I found them and put them on the boys just in time since the boys are growing so fast, they may not fit them anymore. So I sat them on the couch to take a picture and this was the pose they 'fell' into. I just think it is so cute.

Blue Eyes

Reece has these beautiful blue eyes that I wanted to make sure I documented. Many babies are born with blue eyes but then they change colours within the first year. Here's hoping that Reece's eyes stay blue. :)

February

February has been a busy month with several milestones being met. Both boys are starting to look at their surroundings and interact with objects. They seem to be art lovers as both boys spend lots of time staring at the paintings on the walls. We've had a few play dates with their girlfriends Grace and Charlotte and look forward to more get-togethers soon.

Matthew has started cooing and is often very content just lying in bed or sitting in his bouncy chair looking at things or batting at hanging toys. But when he is hungry, oh boy can he SCREAM!! He has found his thumb and most exciting of all, he has a big smile which we seem to see more and more often. In general, Matthew is a happy baby that is growing well and developing at a normal pace and his favourite thing is napping with daddy and laying on his chest!!

Reece started batting at objects and rolled over first but seems to spend most of his time grunting and sometimes screaming. We think it's gripe but nothing we have tried has really worked. He does not seem to like laying down on his back and is most content in his swing staring out the window or sitting on daddy's lap and staring at the paintings.

First visit to the Cottage

We decided to take the boys to the cottage for the family day/Valentine's day weekend. It was great!! The boys got right into the cottage life... sitting around, relaxing and napping on the couch. We look forward to many more trips to the cottage.

First Doctor's Appointment

We packed the boys up for their first outing today to meet their pediatrician. Both boys were so good; sleeping through the car ride and in the waiting room, although Matthew did manage to pee on the wall while he was getting weighed...lol!!
The doctor was very happy with their progress and weight gain; Matthew just under 8 pouns and Reese just over 8 lbs.

Due Date

Today is Reece and Matthew's official due date. The occupational therapist and doctors told us that all references to their progress are based their adjusted age which means today they are 1 day old. Do these look like one day old babies?
We have a hard time believing it since both boys can hold up thier heads, grab and follow things with their eyes and stay up for extended periods of time. Especially Reece; we call him our little toddler because he is so big and eating so much already.
